The race for the national chairmanship of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken a dramatic turn as a coalition of party loyalists across all 16 regions officially secured nomination forms on behalf of former National Chairman, Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.

The voluntary mobilization by the group signals strong grassroots backing for the veteran politician’s potential return to the helm of the party’s executive leadership.

Grassroots Support Across 16 Regions

According to representatives of the group, the decision to purchase and pick up the nomination papers was born out of a collective drive to restore proven leadership and fortify party structures ahead of upcoming national elections.

Speaking on behalf of the former chairman after receiving the documentation, Aide to Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo, Lawyer Abdul-Basit Adam (CoreAbdul), expressed deep appreciation to the party faithful for the proactive gesture.

“A group of dedicated supporters of Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), drawn from all 16 regions of Ghana, have collectively paid for and picked up nomination forms for him to contest the position of National Chairman of the party,” Adam confirmed.

“We have received the forms on his behalf in good faith and sincerely appreciate this expression of love, confidence and support,” he added.

Formal Announcement Awaited

While the procurement of the forms marks a decisive step toward a high-stakes internal campaign, Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s official entry into the race remains subject to a formal declaration upon his return to the country.

Adam urged calm and unity among party members as the internal democratic processes unfold across the country.

“Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s intentions regarding the contest will be formally communicated upon his return to Ghana,” the aide noted. “We thank all comrades and supporters for their continued goodwill and commitment to the NDC as the party’s internal electoral process takes shape.”

The move is expected to heighten anticipation within the NDC’s ranks as key stakeholders await Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s return and address to the party faithful.
