The internal contest for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership in the Greater Accra Region is heating up. Ahead of the crucial internal elections, a key contender for the Regional Secretariat, Comrade Godwin Ayaba Mahama, widely known by his initials GAM, has issued a resonant declaration of intent that reshapes the race from a standard political sprint into a call for principled stewardship.
With Greater Accra serving as the ultimate battleground for the party’s national election calculus, GAM’s campaign message leverages a blend of humility and strategic conviction designed to connect directly with the party’s grassroots.
The Philosophy of ‘Grace Over Race’
In a poignant message to party delegates and supporters, GAM distilled his leadership philosophy down to three core imperatives, cautioning against political arrogance and over-ambition in the run-up to the polls.
“It’s not just the race; it’s the grace,” Mahama declared. “Man no be God.”
Expanding on this philosophy, Mahama emphasized that political ambition must be tempered by character and a commitment to service, rather than a frantic dash for power.
“The contest for leadership transcends mere velocity and ambition,” Mahama stated. “True leadership is ordained by providence, tempered by grace, and sustained by character. Human aspiration must always acknowledge a higher sovereignty, for man is not God.”
A Demand for Discipline in the Capital Region
The battle for Greater Accra is historically one of the most volatile and logistically demanding campaigns within the NDC structure. Recognizing the weight of the office he is seeking, Mahama noted that rhetoric alone will not win the region for the NDC in the next general elections.
“Greater Accra demands more than rhetoric,” Mahama maintained. “It requires a steward who is disciplined, divinely guided, and demonstrably prepared. The region deserves a servant-leader whose mandate is earned, not assumed.”
Local party analysts note that GAM’s messaging is a calculated attempt to position himself as a stabilizing force. By framing the race around organizational discipline and reverence, his camp aims to draw a sharp contrast against standard political posturing.
Galvanizing the Grassroots
As the NDC looks to recalibrate its regional machinery, supporters of Mahama believe his steady, purpose-driven approach is exactly what the secretariat needs to foster unity and build a robust mobilization strategy.
“GAM’s articulation frames the race not as a sprint for power, but as a consecration to service,” said a senior regional party strategist who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “His emphasis on grace over mere speed signals an intention to restore structural discipline and prosecute the party’s agenda with both sagacity and deep respect for the grassroots.”
With the regional campaign entering its critical phase, Mahama’s camp has made it clear that they are fully prepared for the administrative and political battles ahead.
“The right man for the job is emerging,” Mahama concluded. “Watch this space.”
