Keta, Aflao and Dzodze teams provide maternity equipment and supplies to support mothers and healthcare workers
Employees of GCB Bank PLC have donated drip stands, patient bedside lockers, episiotomy and delivery sets, bedsheets and delivery beds to the maternity ward of Ketu South Municipal Hospital in Aflao.
The intervention, which is expected to improve patient comfort, hygiene and the delivery of maternal and neonatal care, forms part of 95 community projects being undertaken nationwide through GCB’s 2026 Staff Community Impact Programme (SCIP) aimed at impacting one million Ghanaians.
The donation was led by employees from GCB Bank’s Keta, Aflao and Dzodze branches, who identified the maternity ward as an area where additional equipment could provide practical support to mothers and healthcare workers.
The team conducted a needs assessment during a visit to the ward and engaged the Ward In-Charge to better understand some of the challenges affecting the delivery of care. Based on the needs identified, the employees focused their support on equipment and supplies that could be put to immediate use.
The maternity ward attends to approximately 250 to 270 women each month, making the availability of basic equipment important for both patients and healthcare professionals. The additional drip stands, delivery beds and other supplies are expected to support smoother ward operations while improving the comfort and dignity of women receiving care.
More than 4,500 GCB employees are participating in the Bank’s nationwide SCIP initiative, with 95 groups undertaking 95 community projects across Ghana between August and September 2026. The projects span healthcare, education, water and sanitation, social protection, environmental sustainability, youth development, community safety, infrastructure and other areas of community development.
Reflecting on the broader purpose of the programme, Cynthia Ofori-Dwumfuo, Chief Marketing, Communications and Customer Experience Officer of GCB Bank, said employee involvement allows the Bank’s CSR efforts to remain closely connected to the needs of communities.
“Our approach to CSR is rooted in listening to communities and responding to needs that can affect people’s everyday lives. When our employees are directly involved in identifying those needs and finding ways to address them, social impact becomes more connected to the people we serve. This is the kind of practical contribution we want the programme to encourage,” she said.
The decision to focus on the maternity ward followed the team’s engagement with hospital staff and its assessment of the equipment available. Stephen Selorm Hotor, Ho Zonal Manager of GCB Bank, who was part of the team behind the intervention, said the group wanted to provide support that could benefit both mothers and healthcare workers.
“We wanted to focus on equipment that could make a practical difference to the maternity ward. Mothers need to feel comfortable and properly supported when they come to the hospital to give birth, and healthcare workers also need the right equipment to do their jobs effectively. We were therefore pleased to provide items that can be used immediately and continue to support the ward,” he said.
The additional equipment is expected to help healthcare workers manage the needs of mothers more efficiently while improving the overall experience of women and their families during their stay at the hospital. The benefits also extend to newborns who depend on the maternity ward for safe and timely care.
The Ketu South Municipal Hospital intervention is the eighth of the 95 SCIP projects being implemented by GCB Bank employees across Ghana.
