  • Last-minute NPP employment: Presidency revoke all unethical contracts

    The Office of the President has directed all heads of government institutions to revoke all unethical ‘last-minute employment’ the outgone NPP government did in bad faith to overburden the public purse.

     

    This is to help purge the government payroll from overbearance of all persons added to the payroll on or after Saturday, December 7th 2024.

     

    The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, who signed the directive emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability in government payroll management processes.

     

    Heads of all public institutions are to oblige by the new directive.

     

    This follows earlier directive from the presidency tasking all heads of public institutions to provide on all such persons employed on the December 7th 2024.

     

    The memo urged the heads to ensure the requested information is submitted no later than Friday, January 31, 2025.

     

    The memo outlines that institutions are required to submit the following details for each staff member added within the specified period:

     

    Full Name

     

    Designation/Job Title

     

    Employee Identification Number (if applicable)

     

    Date of Appointment

     

    Date Added to Payroll

     

    The directive was part of ongoing efforts to verify and ensure the accuracy of government payroll records, specifically those added during the tenure of the John Mahama administration.

     

    “This information is critical to maintaining transparency and accountability,” the memo states, stressing the need for prompt compliance. Institutions facing any challenges or requiring clarification have been encouraged to reach out without hesitation.

     

    The directive has also been copied to the Vice President, the Secretary to the President, and other key stakeholders, underscoring the significance of this initiative in addressing payroll integrity across government institutions.

     

    Failure to meet the submission deadline may attract scrutiny, as the government seeks to streamline payroll systems and eliminate any discrepancies.

    His leadership restructured and positioned Ghana’s Tourism industry as a key contributor to the economy while the industry players were heavily supported to meet the world class standards when he CEO position of the Ghana Tourism Authority.

  • Utility tariffs increment: Make your voices heard – Chief of Staff to stakeholders

    Chief of Staff Frema Osei-Opare has said all the stakeholders must make their voices heard in the process of announcing new utility tariffs by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).

    “It is my fervent hope that all stakeholders will engage actively in this review process and make their voices heard so that the final outcome will benefit the generality of all stakeholders,” she at the inauguration of an office complex for the PURC in Koforidua.

    The Head of Public Relations and External Affairs of the PURC said the Commission will also consider the interest of the investor community and the interest of the utility companies before announcing the new tariffs.

    The PURC had earlier noted that this year’s approved tariffs for utility service providers will be announced on July 1, 2022.

    According to the PURC, the tariffs could be increased or decreased.

    Dr Eric Kofi Obutey, the Director of Research at PURC made this known on Accra 100.5 FM’s evening news on Thursday, May 12, 2022.

    He said, for now, the Commission is engaging all the stakeholders to arrive at tariffs that will serve the need of Ghanaians as well as the service providers.

    Dr Obutey mentioned some of the stakeholders as the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy; Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), and Ghana Employers Association among others.

    He explained that the stakeholder engagement before the announcement of the approved tariffs is mandated by law.

    Dr Obutey was hopeful that all the engagements will end by June for a decision to be taken by July.

    The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Water Company Limited have proposed 148 per cent and 334 per cent hikes, respectively, in tariffs.
