The race for executive leadership within the Central Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reached a fever pitch today as grassroots favorite Joseph Mensah Abakah, popularly known as “Commander 1,” officially submitted his nomination forms for the position of Regional Organiser.

Draped in traditional NDC colors, Abakah arrived at the party’s regional headquarters accompanied by a rowdy delegation of branch executives, youth organizers, and local activists. The submission triggered widespread celebration outside the secretariat, with supporters chanting and drumming in support of his bid.

Addressing supporters and journalists shortly after handing over his documents to party officials, Abakah framed his candidacy as a direct response to the needs of the party’s base, promising a complete overhaul of local mobilization efforts.

“I am not here to contest for a title; I am here to organize for victory,” Abakah said to cheers from the crowd. “We are launching a movement to rebuild, re-energize, and re-engineer our organizational machinery from the polling stations all the way up to the regional level. I am here to work, to unite, and to win.”

Abakah, recognized by party insiders as a seasoned mobilizer with deep ties to local constituencies, emphasized that his campaign strategy focuses on continuous engagement rather than routine political campaigning.

“Our mission requires iron-clad discipline and 24-hour grassroots engagement,” he added. “The Central Region must be made politically impregnable for the NDC, and that requires proactive work on the ground every single day.”

The atmosphere among local party loyalists following the filing was upbeat. Kwabena Nkrumah, a branch youth executive who traveled to witness the event, spoke on why Abakah’s bid has gathered swift momentum among the rank and file.

“Commander 1 is a battle-tested mobilizer who understands the reality on the ground,” Nkrumah said. “He has an unbreakable bond with the base, and we know he has the energy and fearlessness needed to lead our organizational machinery into the next election cycle.”

With the official filing phase concluding, regional election officials will proceed with vetting all cleared candidates before the regional delegates conference. Abakah called on his team to keep energy high while upholding party discipline throughout the process.
