    The Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB PLC), Edward Ato Sarpong has described Ghana’s successful exit from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) financial support programme as a defining moment for the country’s economic recovery journey, signaling renewed investor confidence, stronger financial discipline, and a more resilient banking sector.

    According to the ADB MD, Ghana’s progress under the IMF-backed reforms demonstrates the country’s commitment to restoring macroeconomic stability, strengthening fiscal governance, and rebuilding confidence within the financial markets.

    Speaking on the outlook of Ghana’s economy and the future of the banking industry, the ADB MD noted that the country’s gradual recovery presents a unique opportunity for banks to deepen support for businesses, agriculture, SMEs, and the productive sectors that drive inclusive economic growth.

    “The successful completion of Ghana’s IMF programme is more than a policy milestone; it is a strong signal that the country is regaining financial credibility and restoring confidence among investors, development partners, and the business community,” the MD stated.

    Mr. Ato Sarpong emphasized that the banking industry now has a critical responsibility to convert the gains from macroeconomic stability into meaningful economic transformation by increasing lending to productive sectors, supporting entrepreneurship, and accelerating financial inclusion.

    He explained that improved economic stability, easing inflationary pressures, relative exchange rate stability, and renewed market confidence are expected to create a more enabling environment for businesses and households.

    Edward Ato Sarpong further indicated that Ghanaian banks must strategically position themselves to support national development priorities through innovation, digital banking expansion, customer-focused solutions, and sustainable financing initiatives.

    “Economic recovery must ultimately translate into real sector growth, job creation, and improved livelihoods for Ghanaians. Banks therefore have a central role to play in supporting this transition,” he added.

    The Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB PLC), Edward Ato Sarpong has commended the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) for the sustained efforts in advancing non-traditional exports (NTEs), pledging deeper collaboration to enhance financial intermediation and accelerate economic transformation.

    Edward Ato Sarpong made the statement after the official launch of the 2025 Non-Traditional Export Statistics Report, an event held at GEPA’s Headquarters on Friday, April 17, 2026, under the theme “Driving Economic Transformation Through Strategic Export Diversification.”

    The ceremony brought together high-level stakeholders across government, financial institutions, and the private sector, underscoring the strategic importance of export diversification in strengthening Ghana’s macroeconomic resilience. The event was attended several government officials, captains of industry, members from the diplomatic community and other development partners.

    The ADB MD praised GEPA’s consistent efforts in expanding Ghana’s export base beyond traditional commodities, indicating that such initiatives align with ADB’s development mandate. “The NTE sector has become a critical pillar of economic stability, contributing significantly to foreign exchange earnings and reducing vulnerability to external shocks,” he noted.

    This observation echoes insights captured in the solidarity messages within the report, where NTEs were highlighted as accounting for a substantial share of export earnings and driving diversification across sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and services.

    The ADB MD emphasized that Ghana’s progress in non-traditional exports reflects a deliberate policy shift towards value addition, industrialization, and market expansion. He further acknowledged GEPA’s role in building export capacity, facilitating market access, and promoting Ghanaian products globally. These efforts, he noted, “align strongly with the Bank’s broader agenda of fostering inclusive growth, regional integration, and sustainable industrial development across Africa.”

    Reinforcing this position, Edward Ato Sarpong pledged financial and technical support to GEPA and its partners, particularly Exporters and Importers. This includes potential collaboration in export financing, infrastructure development, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the export value chain.     The Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB PLC), Edward Ato Sarpong, has stated that the National Chief Imam, Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, embodies peace, compassion, and love as he (ADB MD) hosted Muslim staff and partners to the end of Ramadan Iftar at the Bank’s Head Office on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

    Ato Sarpong also used the platform to wish Muslims across the globe Eid-ul-Fitr, an Islamic festival that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

    “On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management, and Staff of ADB PLC, I extend our warmest Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to our valued customers, partners, and the general public,” the ADB MD stated.

    The Agricultural Development Bank has reaffirmed service excellence as a central driver of its growth agenda, following a superior service experience strategy session held for business heads and senior management on Saturday February 28, 2026.

    The meeting was aimed at reviewing the Bank’s performance trajectory and to also help accelerate growth in 2026 and beyond. Management noted that the strong performance and historical gains recorded in 2025 reflected leadership, improved execution, stronger discipline, and a growing emphasis on quality and superior service delivery across the Bank.

    Speaking at the strategy session, the Managing Director of ADB PLC, Edward Ato Sarpong, underscored the need for leaders and all staff to consistently translate strategy into action, noting that superior service delivery must reflect not only in systems and processes but in the attitude and conduct of staff at every customer touchpoint.

    He stressed that in an increasingly competitive banking environment, growth can only be sustained when customers experience professionalism, responsiveness, and reliability in their interactions with the Bank. “Superior service delivery is not an abstract value but a practical standard that should guide everyday decisions across branches and departments,” the MD said.

    Discussions at the strategy session focused on consolidating recent performance gains, tightening service standards, and aligning growth priorities with customer-focused execution. Business heads, and by extension, all employees, were charged to continually improve turnaround times and ensure that customer experience remains central to business decisions and our operations. He reiterated the task of exceeding customers’ expectations and delighting them with superior service experience at all times.

     

    On her part, the Deputy Managing Director in charge of Operations, Mrs. Sylvia Naa Kwakai Nyante, emphasised that while the Bank is positioning itself for accelerated growth in 2026 and beyond, growth without superior service weakens trust and long-term value. “Leaders and all staff are therefore charged to lead with poise, reinforce service discipline and drive measurable improvements across frontline and support functions,” she said.

    “ADB shall be driven by its Beyond Banking agenda and its core values, including service excellence, which must be firmly established as a basic standard that guides our operations and growth,” she added.

    The engagement session forms part of a corporate strategy to deepen the Bank’s purpose-driven culture and strategically position ADB as a Bank of service excellence for sustained growth, competitiveness, and long-term impact.

    ADB PLC’s strategic vision is to be among the top 3 banks in Ghana, globally admired for its people, processes, and performance.

    The Bank is expanding its digital channels by leveraging technology. It is also set to open a new and ultramodern branch at East Legon and reopen its Dansoman Branch, which has been closed since 2023.
