    ADB-UCC Open New Chapter of Institutional Collaboration

    The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have signalled their commitment to deepening institutional cooperation following a high-level engagement between the leadership of the two institutions.

    The engagement took place when the Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Dennis Worlanyo Aheto, led a delegation from the University to pay a courtesy call on the Managing Director of ADB PLC, Edward Ato Sarpong, and the Bank’s Deputy Managing Director in charge of Services, Prof. Ferdinand Ahiakpor.

    The UCC delegation included Mr. Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye (Esq.), Registrar, and Mr. George Amfo-Antiri, Director of Finance.

    The visit provided an important platform for the two institutions to strengthen their relationship and explore opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in areas that could leverage the respective strengths of academia and the financial services sector.

    Welcoming the delegation, the ADB MD, Edward Ato Sarpong expressed appreciation to the UCC leadership for the visit and underscored the importance of building strong institutional partnerships. He noted that collaboration between the banking sector and academia could create opportunities for knowledge exchange, human capital development, and innovative solutions that contribute to national development.

    He reaffirmed ADB’s commitment to building sustainable relationships with reputable institutions and expressed the Bank’s readiness to explore practical areas of cooperation with UCC.

    Prof. Ferdinand Ahiakpor also highlighted the importance of stronger academia-industry collaboration, noting that closer engagement between universities and businesses could help bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry requirements.

    For his part, Prof. Dennis Worlanyo Aheto expressed appreciation to the management of ADB for the warm reception and emphasised UCC’s interest in strengthening its relationship with the Bank.

    He indicated that the visit was to first of all, thank and appreciate ADB for sending a delegation from Accra to congratulate him when he was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

    On institutional partnership, Prof. Aheto emphasised that closer cooperation between the two institutions could create opportunities for knowledge sharing, capacity building and other initiatives of mutual benefit.

    The meeting also afforded the leadership of both institutions, an opportunity to exchange perspectives on institutional development and the important contribution that strategic partnerships can make towards developing human capital and supporting Ghana’s socioeconomic advancement.

    The courtesy call marks a new chapter in the relationship between ADB and UCC, with both institutions expressing their willingness to strengthen the engagement and explore practical opportunities for deeper collaboration.

    The Agricultural Development Bank PLC (ADB) has celebrated one of its staff members, Mrs. Patience Abbah, following her remarkable emergence as the ultimate winner of Geisha Ghana’s inaugural Mama G Award 2026, a national initiative recognising women whose acts of care, sacrifice, resilience and positive influence continue to shape families and communities across Ghana.

    Mrs. Abbah emerged victorious from a highly competitive field of 147 nominees from across the country after a seven-week nationwide campaign launched as part of the Mother’s Day celebrations. The competition recently culminated in a grand finale held at the Holiday Inn Hotel, now Palms by Eagles, Airport, Accra.

    The Mama G campaign attracted widespread public interest as it brought to the fore inspiring stories of women whose everyday sacrifices, resilience and commitment to their families and communities.

    Following weeks of public voting and eliminations, the initial 147 nominees were narrowed down to 10 outstanding finalists for a grand finale that brought together families, supporters, sponsors, and invited guests for an evening of celebration, emotions and recognition.

    Mrs. Patience Abbah of ADB emerged as the ultimate winner, earning the distinction of becoming the first-ever Geisha Ghana Mama G.

    As part of her award, Mrs. Abbah enjoyed an all-expense-paid trip outside Ghana with her spouse, in recognition of her inspiring story and achievement.

    Patience Abbah Champions Compassion

    Beyond celebrating her personal achievement, Mrs. Abbah has chosen to use the Mama G 2026 platform to champion compassion and encourage society to pay greater attention to the needs of the vulnerable and less privileged.

    She believes everyone has an opportunity to make a difference in the life of another person, irrespective of the resources available to them. A kind word, a meal, clothing, financial assistance or simply extending a helping hand could provide hope to someone experiencing difficult circumstances.

    She stressed that compassion should become a way of life and urged individuals to recognise the potentially transformative impact of seemingly small acts of kindness. Her message is anchored in the biblical exhortation in Acts 20:35: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

    The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB PLC) has made another significant mark in Ghana’s banking industry with the first-ever retreat of its Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) Chapter, creating a strategic platform to strengthen professionalism, deepen collaboration, and prepare bankers for the rapidly changing future of financial services.

    Held at Akosombo on 7th and 8th August 2026, under the theme “Recharge, Reconnect and Reinvent,” the two-day retreat brought together members of the CIB-ADB Chapter across the country, executives, and industry experts for a blend of professional development, strategic conversations, mentorship, networking, and team-building.

    The historic retreat was led by the President of the CIB-ADB Chapter who is also the Deputy Managing Director in charge of Services at ADB, Mrs. Sylvia Naa Kwakai Nyante. Participants were honoured to have the Managing Director of ADB, Edward Ato Sarpong, attending as a Special Guest and the Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana, Robert Dzato, also attending as a Speaker.

    The initiative underscores ADB’s growing emphasis on developing its human capital and building a new generation of banking professionals equipped with the knowledge, leadership capabilities, ethical grounding, and innovative mindset in line with ADB’s strategic vision of being among the top 3 banks in Ghana, globally admired for its people, processes, and performance.

    Addressing participants, Mrs. Sylvia Naa Kwakai Nyante said the maiden retreat represents much more than a gathering of professional bankers, describing it as an opportunity for members to reconnect with one another, strengthen professional relationships, and collectively reflect on their role in shaping the future of banking.

    Mrs. Nyante emphasised that the theme, “Recharge, Reconnect and Reinvent,” speaks directly to the realities of today’s banking environment, where institutions and professionals must continuously adapt to technological advancement, changing customer expectations, emerging risks and increasing competition.

    According to her, the strength of the CIB-ADB Chapter must ultimately be reflected in the quality of its members, the professional standards they uphold, and the value they bring to ADB and the wider banking industry.

    “The future of banking will require professionals who are prepared to continuously learn, collaborate and reinvent or reposition themselves. This retreat provides us with an opportunity to recharge, strengthen the bonds among us and develop the collective capacity required to contribute meaningfully to the transformation of ADB PLC and the banking profession,” Mrs. Nyante said.

    She noted that building stronger professional relationships among members would also encourage mentorship, knowledge sharing and a greater sense of belonging within the Chapter.

    Robert Dzato Challenges Bankers to Prepare for the Future

    The CEO of CIB Ghana, Mr. Robert Dzato, a guest speaker, highlighted the increasingly dynamic nature of the banking profession and the need for practitioners to continually enhance their competencies.

    He underscored the important role of professional banking education in building a resilient financial sector and challenged bankers to look beyond traditional approaches to banking as digitalisation, artificial intelligence, data analytics and changing customer behaviour redefine the industry.

    Robert Dzato further encouraged members to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct, noting that trust remains fundamental to banking despite the technological transformation taking place within the sector.

    “Banking may be changing in the way services are delivered, but professionalism, competence, integrity and trust will remain at the heart of the profession. The banker of the future must therefore be technically competent, digitally aware, innovative and deeply committed to ethical practice,” Mr. Dzato said.

    He commended the CIB-ADB Chapter for setting the pace by organizing the first-ever CIB chapter retreat and creating a dedicated platform for professional engagement. Mr. Dzato also encouraged members to take advantage of the Institute’s programmes to continuously upgrade their knowledge and capabilities.

    The retreat programme was deliberately designed to combine professional development with human-centred engagement.

    The opening day featured a welcome and introductory session followed by a Committee Spotlight Session, during which the Welfare, Learning and Development, and Membership Committees highlighted their roles and priorities.

    A major feature was “The Big Conversation,” which provided a platform for participants to explore the retreat theme and exchange perspectives on professional growth, collaboration and the changing banking landscape.

    The programme also featured “Sharing the Thrill,” allowing participants to share experiences and stories that have shaped their professional journeys.

    On the second day, participants engaged with industry leadership through speaker sessions, while executives and committee members of the CIB-ADB Chapter were inducted and sworn into office.

    The retreat further incorporated feedback and reflection sessions, networking opportunities and social activities, including a talent show and karaoke night, to deepen camaraderie and strengthen relationships among members.

    Agricultural Development Bank PLC (ADB) has celebrated another significant milestone in its transformation journey by combining the announcement of its impressive half-year financial performance with its second Health Walk and Annual Team Bonding Games, reinforcing the Bank’s commitment to both business excellence and employee wellbeing.

    Addressing participants, the Managing Director of ADB, Edward Ato Sarpong, expressed profound appreciation to customers, employees, shareholders and all stakeholders whose confidence and commitment have underpinned the Bank’s remarkable turnaround over the past eighteen months.

    The Bank delivered another strong financial performance during the first half of 2026 despite operating in a declining interest rate environment. Profit before tax reached GH¢294 million, propelling ADB to become the 11th most profitable bank in Ghana, a remarkable achievement considering the Bank’s position at the beginning of 2025.

    ADB also recorded outstanding growth across its key performance indicators. Total assets increased by 33% to GH¢19.5 billion, customer deposits rose by 23% to GH¢14.9 billion, while shareholders’ funds strengthened by approximately GH¢1.1 billion to close the period at GH¢2.6 billion.

    The Bank maintained a strong liquidity position throughout the period and posted a robust Capital Adequacy Ratio of 26.94 percent, demonstrating prudent financial management and continued compliance with regulatory requirements.

    The ADB MD also paid glowing tribute to the Bank’s workforce for their professionalism, resilience and unwavering commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

    “To our dedicated pool of talents, I commend your professionalism, resilience and unwavering commitment to excellence. Your passion for service and determination to exceed expectations continue to drive the Bank’s transformation and position ADB as a stronger, more competitive institution,” he stated.

    In a demonstration of Agricultural Development Bank PLC’s enduring commitment to community partnership and the preservation of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, the Bank presented assorted items to the Omanhene of the Edina Traditional Council, Nana Kojo Kondua VI, in support of the 2026 Edina Bakatue Festival, scheduled to climax on 7th July 2026.

     

    The ADB delegation comprised of Mr. Jake Annan (Head of Operations), Mr. Papa Arkoh Ayiah (Head of Compliance), Mr. Joseph Kweku Biney (Assistant Area Manager, Central & Western Zone), Cde Joseph Mensah Abakah (Coordinator, MSMEs/MMAA), Mr. Kwabena Osei Owusu (Cape Coast Branch Manager), Ms. Phigiena Tetteh, and Mr. Amos Amartey.

    Receiving the delegation was the Edina Traditional Council, led by Nana Kojo Kondua VI, in the company of the Constituency Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress, headed by Hon.     The delegation, led by Nana Kwamina Nguandoh IV, Chief of Simiw, conveyed the goodwill and congratulations of Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, Omanhen of Edina Traditional Area, describing Mr. Sarpong’s appointment as a testament to his leadership, integrity, and commitment to Ghana’s banking sector.

    ADB Holds 39th AGM, Reports Strongest Turnaround Performance

    Agricultural Development Bank PLC (ADB PLC) held its 39th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Accra Financial Centre on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, bringing together shareholders, Board of Directors, Management, regulators and other stakeholders to review the Bank’s performance for the 2025 financial year and discuss its strategic direction.

     

    Addressing shareholders, the Managing Director, Edward Ato Sarpong, highlighted ADB PLC’s remarkable turnaround performance, noting that the Bank recorded a profit after tax of GHS367.29 million in 2025, representing a significant improvement from the GHS35.06 million recorded in 2024.

    The Bank’s total assets grew strongly from GHS14.60 billion in 2024 to GHS17.89 billion in 2025, while customer deposits increased to GHS13.22 billion from GHS12.05 billion during the same period. Shareholders’ equity also improved substantially, rising to GHS2.48 billion.

    Shareholders received and considered the Audited Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2025, together with the Reports of the Directors and Auditors. The meeting also approved the re-election of Wing Commander Samuel J.A. Allotey (Retired), Hon. Dr. Ebenezer Prince Arhin and Hon. Misbahu Mahama Adams as Directors of the Bank.

    Additionally, shareholders authorised the Board of Directors to fix the remuneration of the external auditors for the 2026 financial year.

    As part of the special business of the meeting, shareholders approved resolutions authorising a private placement of equity shares to the Government of Ghana to support the Bank’s capitalisation efforts and strengthen its position in meeting regulatory capital requirements.

    Speaking on the Bank’s outlook, Management reaffirmed its commitment to delivering sustainable growth, deepening customer relationships & service experience, driving innovation, supporting Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda, and creating long-term value for shareholders.

    The AGM concluded with shareholders expressing confidence in the Bank’s strategic direction and leadership as it continues its journey of transformation under its “Beyond Banking” agenda.
