Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC has expressed strong confidence in the Ghana Cocoa Board’s (COCOBOD) new crop financing model and upcoming notes programme, pledging its full participation to help drive the country’s cocoa sector forward.
The endorsement was delivered during a courtesy call at Cocoa House in Accra, where the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Ghana, Mr. Korse Godzi, alongside his executive management team, met with the Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey.
The high-level engagement served as an official introduction for Mr. Godzi while providing a platform for both institutions to explore strategic avenues to deepen their multi-decade financial partnership. Central to the discussions was the transition toward COCOBOD’s restructured domestic financing framework, designed to optimize liquidity, lower borrowing costs, and strengthen local capital markets.
Following a presentation on the new notes programme, Mr. Godzi praised COCOBOD’s proactive approach to structural reform, noting that the Bank is fully aligned with the board’s vision for sustainable sector financing.
”We are highly satisfied with the robust structure and transparent system COCOBOD has put in place for the new crop financing model,” Mr. Godzi stated during the meeting. “Standard Chartered remains deeply committed to sustaining and further developing our historic partnership with COCOBOD, and we look forward to actively participating in this upcoming notes programme to support Ghana’s cocoa ecosystem.”
Welcoming the delegation, COCOBOD Chief Executive Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey congratulated Mr. Godzi on his appointment and reiterated the Board’s resolve to foster strong, mutually beneficial relationships with key financial institutions.
”We are pleased to welcome Mr. Godzi to the cocoa industry at such a transformative moment,” Dr. Abbey said. “COCOBOD’s management team is fully prepared to work hand-in-hand with Standard Chartered Bank to advance our shared strategic interests. Strengthening our domestic financing mechanisms is critical to ensuring long-term sustainability, and having the solid backing of reputable partners like Standard Chartered reinforces our trajectory.”
The meeting concluded with both leadership teams reaffirming their joint commitment to close collaboration, ensuring smooth execution of the upcoming funding cycle to safeguard the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and reinforce Ghana’s broader macroeconomic stability.
