Local authorities and joint security teams have taken control of key access routes in Hamile after a deadly explosion involving concealed dynamite resulted in the loss of a Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officer and left another officer fighting for their life.

The blast erupted near an informal border crossing point when security personnel stopped a motor tricycle carrying several civilians for a routine check. The violent detonation claimed lives instantly, prompting immediate fears of further escalation along the vulnerable frontier district.

Responding swiftly to advice from the National Security Council, the Ministry of the Interior enacted an Executive Instrument establishing a strict 11-hour daily movement ban across Hamile and neighbouring communities within the Lambussie District. Effective immediately, residents must remain indoors between 6:00 PM and 5:00 AM, while security patrols have been significantly bolstered across the area.

Official Directives and Sanctions

Ministry of the Interior Announcement:

“The Minister for the Interior, acting on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has imposed an 11-hour curfew on Hamile Township and its surrounding communities in the Lambussie District, effective immediately. A total ban has also been placed on the possession of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons within the area. Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.”

Call for Community Cooperation:

“Government urges Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their grievances into ensuring peace in the area.”

Unfolding Investigation

Investigators are focused on tracing the supply chain of the explosives to establish whether the dynamite was destined for illegal mining activities or linked to illicit cross-border syndicates. Meanwhile, medical staff continue to treat the injured survivors, and community leaders have been called upon to work alongside security forces to maintain peace throughout the district.
