The Kenneth Aneweneh Foundation, in partnership with the international Angel Care Foundation, has officially launched a dual-action neonatal welfare campaign in the Upper East Region.

Combining structural support with newborn care, the collaborative effort introduces the “Baby Blanket and Baby Cot Initiative,” aimed at drastically reducing neonatal vulnerability and strengthening healthcare systems across Africa.

Under the partnership, the Angel Care Foundation provides custom-designed baby blankets, while the Kenneth Aneweneh Foundation provides essential baby cots to local health facilities and children’s homes.

The high-profile launch brought together key stakeholders, including Mrs. Hannah Amoateng (MD of Myturn Ltd and Lesken Enterprise), Bamidele Amao (Board Secretary of the Kenneth Aneweneh Foundation), Jessica O’Hara (Global Health Consultant for the Angel Care Foundation), the Dr. Olivia Chanke (Executive Director of the Angel Care Foundation), and members of the management team from the Kenneth Aneweneh Foundation.

A Dual Shield for Africa’s “Backbone”

The joint delegation is currently touring health institutions and childcare facilities across the Bolgatanga municipality to distribute an initial batch of 500 blankets alongside heavy-duty baby cots, while simultaneously assessing local neonatal infrastructure needs.

Speaking on the core philosophy driving the project, Global Health Consultant Jessica O’Hara emphasized that children’s welfare must remain a top priority for sustainable national development.

“Children are the backbone of society,” O’Hara stated. “The initiative aims to ensure good health at the newborn stage to build a strong population. We are looking at the ecosystem holistically supporting sustainable structures like women’s empowerment and education alongside immediate neonatal care.”

The blankets, designed in vibrant Pan-African colors to symbolize continental unity, serve a dual purpose. Founded by Dr. Olivia Chanke, the initiative uses the blankets as a tool for direct engagement, with teams personally demonstrating proper swaddling techniques to new mothers on maternity wards. Complementing this, the durable baby cots provided by the Kenneth Aneweneh Foundation ensure that newborns have a safe, hygienic, and dedicated space during their critical first days of life.

From Symbolic Warmth to Critical Medical Infrastructure

While the current distribution provides immediate, practical comfort and safe sleeping spaces, project leaders view the blankets and cots as a gateway to high-level technical interventions. Future phases of the partnership aim to address critical gaps in maternal and newborn health by supplying neonatal intensive care equipment for premature babies and other essential medical supplies.

Following tours of local healthcare facilities, O’Hara praised the dedication of local healthcare workers while acknowledging the systemic deficits they face daily.

“What stood out the most was the sheer resilience of the doctors and patients,” O’Hara noted. “While there are significant gaps and clear areas where system strengthening is urgently required, the medical staff are doing an incredible job with the limited resources available to them.”

    Transforming Childcare and Honoring Legacies

As part of their outreach, the delegation visited local childcare facilities managed by the Catholic Diocese, highlighting a profound shift in how vulnerable children are supported in the region.

Father Felix Anapo, the Parish Priest of the Martyrs of Uganda Church, provided historical context to the evolution of local childcare services, noting how far the community has progressed.

“The home originally served children labeled as ‘fairies’ or non-human by traditional society, stepping in where the community refused,” Father Felix explained. “Today, we have moved away from the term ‘orphanage’ to ‘baby’s home’ to reflect a more inclusive care model that supports orphans and children of mentally or physically incapacitated parents.”

Father Felix expressed immense gratitude to the benefactors, noting that the provision of blankets and cots provides crucial material and emotional encouragement to local staff.

“Visits like these validate the tireless work of our sisters and caregivers. It reminds them that their efforts are a profound, motherly role rather than just a job for money,” Father Felix said. “We are deeply grateful to the Dr. Ken Foundation for keeping the late Dr. Kenneth Aneweneh’s legacy alive through this ongoing support for the less privileged.”

Heartwarming Climax: Massive Donation to Sirigu Mother of Mercies Babies Home

To crown the multi-day tour of the Upper East Region, the official launch reached a heartwarming climax with a major corporate social responsibility intervention at the Mother of Mercies Babies Home in Sirigu, located within the Kassena-Nankana West District.

The Kenneth Aneweneh Foundation presented a massive consignment of essential relief items to the facility. The donation included assorted baby foods, bottled water, toiletries, sanitaries, and detergents, aimed at easing the operational burdens of the home and improving the daily upkeep of the children.

Sirigu Mother of Mercies Support Package:

├── Nutritional Supply: Premium infant nutrition and bottled water

├── Hygiene & Safety: Bulk detergents and sanitation products

└── Structural Care: Specialized baby cots and protective bedding

Project leaders emphasized that while the core initiative introduces blankets and cots to local hospitals, supporting existing residential childcare facilities with nutrition and sanitation is equally critical.

Speaking during the presentation, representatives from the Kenneth Aneweneh Foundation management noted:

“Our mission goes beyond equipping clinical wards; it extends directly into the living spaces of these children. Ensuring that the caregivers have premium infant nutrition, clean water, and strict sanitary supplies is foundational to protecting these young lives from preventable health complications.”

The presentation provided a profound moment of encouragement for the administrative and caregiving staff at the home, who highlight the immense financial and emotional strain of running a specialized “baby’s home.”

Receiving the items on behalf of the facility, the local clergy supervising the diocese’s welfare programs expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, noting that external partnerships are what keep their doors open.

“Visits and donations of this scale validate the tireless, round-the-clock work of our sisters and caregivers,” the local clergy noted. “It reminds our staff that their efforts are recognized as a profound, motherly role rather than just a job. We are deeply grateful to the Kenneth Aneweneh Foundation for keeping the late Dr. Ken’s legacy alive by physically answering the calls of the less privileged.”

A Sustainable Blueprint for Regional Healthcare

The climax of the event in the Kassena-Nankana West District reinforces the long-term vision articulated by the coalition—shifting away from temporary “handouts” toward sustainable, holistic development.

By combining the Angel Care Foundation’s baby blankets, the Kenneth Aneweneh Foundation’s baby cots, and targeted nutritional and sanitary donations, the alliance has established a comprehensive blueprint for neonatal support in northern Ghana.

Driven by what organizers describe as a spiritual mission to restore dignity and care to African children, the foundations plan to aggressively scale the project. The immediate goal is to network with hospitals and non-governmental organizations to extend the blanket and cot distributions to all major health facilities across Ghana by the end of the year, laying the groundwork for a broader, continent-wide rollout of 1 million blankets over the next five years.
