The race for the Central Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) gained significant momentum today as party stalwart Hamza Alhassan formally submitted his nomination papers at the regional secretariat.
Arrival at the secretariat was marked by strong turnouts from local party delegates, youth leaders, and community representatives who gathered to back his campaign. Alhassan enters the contest backed by years of political organization, including his previous service as Awutu Senya East Constituency Treasurer and his pivotal role as a co-founder of the Zongo for Mahama initiative.
Speaking to journalists outside the secretariat, Alhassan outlined his strategic vision to strengthen party cohesion and maximize voter turnout across the region’s Zongo settlements.
“This campaign is about leveraging real grassroots connections to build an unbeatable party structure,” Alhassan said. “As someone born and raised within the Zongo tradition, I understand the daily realities of our people. We are going to ensure that every Zongo community in the Central Region feels seen, heard, and actively involved in driving the NDC to victory.”
Local party figures in attendance pointed to Alhassan’s previous bid for the role and his extensive administrative experience as key factors that position him as a unifying figure.
“Hamza brings a rare combination of executive track record and deep community trust,” remarked Hajia Amina Salifu, a party delegate from Awutu Senya East. “His work as Constituency Treasurer proved his administrative competence, while his foundational role in Zongo for Mahama shows his commitment to national political outreach.”
Addressing his earlier attempt at the regional position, Alhassan emphasized that his continuous engagement with constituency leadership has only strengthened his readiness to lead.
“Every journey prepares you for the next level of service,” Alhassan explained. “My previous experience gave me firsthand insight into the unique challenges faced by our constituencies. Today, we return with a clearer strategy, stronger partnerships, and an unwavering commitment to deliver results for our party.”
With the official submission of his nomination, Alhassan’s campaign team is expected to commence a tour of the region’s constituencies ahead of the upcoming regional executive elections.
