The Agona West Communications Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched a scathing attack on broadcast journalist Paul Adom-Otchere, following what the party describes as a “deeply misleading and factually defective” editorial aired on Metro TV.
In a strongly worded press statement issued on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the party accused the Good Evening Ghana host of abandoning professional responsibility in favor of “sensatonalism and partisan framing” during his Tuesday night broadcast.
Basic Factual Blunders
The controversy centers on an editorial in which Adom-Otchere allegedly misidentified key political and geographical facts. According to the NDC, the broadcaster committed two “elementary” errors that undermined the entire premise of his analysis:
Identity Crisis: The party clarified that the Member of Parliament (MP) featured in the editorial is the duly elected representative for Agona West, not Agona East as claimed by Adom-Otchere.
Geographical Displacement: The editorial reportedly placed Swedru Secondary School in the wrong constituency. The NDC maintains the institution is located within Agona East, not Agona West.
“These are not complex facts. They are basic,” stated Abdul-Wahab Africa Zion, the Agona West Communication Officer. “Their distortion on a national platform is therefore not just an error it is a serious breach of professional responsibility.”
A “Worrying Trend” of Bias
The NDC’s grievance extends beyond simple mistakes. The party suggests the incident is part of a “broader and worrying trend” where specific media outlets target NDC officials with unverified conjecture.
The statement warned that such “reckless misrepresentation” threatens to erode public trust and weaken Ghana’s democratic discourse. “The era of unchecked misinformation must give way to an era of accountability,” the statement added.
Three-Point Demand
The Agona West Communications Bureau has laid out three non-negotiable demands for Paul Adom-Otchere and the management of Metro TV:
An immediate and unqualified apology to the affected Member of Parliament and the general public.
The total withdrawal of the misleading content from all digital and broadcast platforms.
The publication of a prominent retraction, explicitly correcting the distorted facts.
Call for Regulatory Action
Beyond the immediate dispute, the NDC is calling on media regulatory bodies, civil society, and media leadership to intervene. The party argues that editorial freedom should not serve as a “guise” for the unjustified targeting of public officials.
”The NDC will continue to defend the integrity of its members and will not hesitate to call out and resist any attempt deliberate or otherwise—to misinform the public,” Africa Zion concluded.
As of press time, neither Paul Adom-Otchere nor Metro TV has issued a formal response to the NDC’s demands.
