The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region has drawn a hard line on internal discipline, issuing a stern warning to its rank and file against making reckless comments regarding the ongoing controversies in the Awutu Senya East constituency.
In an official cautionary directive released on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the NDC Central Regional Chairman, Nana Dr. Richard Kofi Asiedu, made it clear that the party will no longer tolerate public utterances that damage its brand or target its parliamentary representatives.
Strict Gag Order on Public Disrepute
The directive follows escalating tensions and public commentary surrounding the Awutu Senya East saga. Effective immediately, the party leadership has banned all members, executives, and communicators from engaging in media commentary that could undermine the party’s image.
”Henceforth, any person who, through reckless, malicious, defamatory or inflammatory statements or conduct, seeks to bring the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East into disrepute, ridicule or public contempt on radio, television, social media or any other public platform shall be deemed to have committed a serious breach of Party discipline,” Nana Dr. Richard Kofi Asiedu warned in the statement.
The leadership emphasized that the restriction spans across all media spectrums, specifically highlighting social media, radio, and television as areas where decorum must be strictly maintained.
Swift Sanctions Await Offenders
The regional secretariat has signaled that it is ready to enforce compliance with a heavy hand. According to the leadership, any breach of this directive will be met with immediate administrative consequences rather than standard internal diplomacy.
”Such conduct will attract swift and uncompromising disciplinary action,” the statement noted. “Offenders shall be referred to the appropriate Party Disciplinary Committee for investigation and the imposition of sanctions in accordance with the Constitution and regulations of the National Democratic Congress.”
Eye on the Electoral Prize
With the political climate intensifying, the regional leadership believes that internal bickering and media wars only serve to diminish the NDC’s chances at the polls. The directive underscores a broader effort to consolidate party unity and present a cohesive front to the electorate.
”The Office of the Regional Chairman will neither condone nor tolerate any act that undermines the unity, credibility, authority or electoral fortunes of the Party,” the Chairman stated. “All members are therefore directed to uphold the highest standards of discipline, responsibility and decorum in protecting the image and integrity of the National Democratic Congress.”
Party insiders suggest that this move is a necessary intervention to stabilize the constituency and protect the standing of the sitting Member of Parliament as the political season progresses.
