Dr. Dramani Bukari, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has passed away, sending shockwaves through Ghana’s downstream petroleum and renewable energy sectors.

Sources close to the NPA confirmed the sudden demise of the energy economist and sustainability expert.

Before his appointment as Deputy CEO at the NPA, Dr. Bukari served as the Director of Entrepreneurship, Partnerships, and Investments at the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC) at Ashesi University. With over 16 years of distinguished experience, he was widely respected for his deep expertise in energy systems, petroleum taxation, sustainable energy technologies, and climate-responsive investments.

Expressing profound sorrow over the news, a senior official at the National Petroleum Authority described Dr. Bukari’s passing as a heavy blow to the regulatory body and the broader energy community.

“Dr. Bukari was a visionary scholar and dedicated public servant whose depth of knowledge in energy policy and petroleum economics was unassailable,” the official stated. “His contribution to shaping key downstream policies during his tenure was invaluable, and his loss creates a tremendous void within the leadership of the Authority and the entire industry.”

Industry colleagues and clean energy advocates have also paid tribute to his pioneering work in climate innovation and sustainable finance. A former colleague at the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre reflected on Dr. Bukari’s commitment to advancing green enterprise across West Africa.

“Dr. Bukari was passionate about driving sustainable energy solutions and empowering green entrepreneurs across the region,” she recalled. “He brought extraordinary intellect, humility, and dedication to every project he led. His death is a tragic loss to Ghana’s academic, energy, and climate innovation ecosystems.”

Dr. Bukari held a Ph.D. in Sustainable Energy Technologies and earned a Master of Science in Energy Economics with Distinction. Throughout his career, he bridged academia, policy, and market dynamics to foster efficiency, sustainability, and economic growth within the energy sector.

Further details regarding funeral arrangements and an official statement from his family and the National Petroleum Authority are expected to be communicated in due course.
