The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released an additional GH¢256.5 million to credentialed healthcare providers across the country, reinforcing its commitment to monthly reimbursements and ensuring uninterrupted medical services under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The payment, executed in two tranches on July 29 and August 3, 2026, primarily covers service claims submitted by facilities for the period between January and June this year. This latest release follows an earlier GH¢219.8 million disbursement on July 1.

With the new injection of funds, the Authority’s total claims disbursement for 2026 has reached approximately GH¢1.46 billion.

Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, emphasized that consistent claim settlements are vital to maintaining operational stability across Ghana’s health delivery network and bolstering public trust in the scheme.

“Timely claims payment strengthens the healthcare delivery system, improves patient outcomes, and reinforces public confidence in the NHIS,” Dr. Bampoe stated in a release issued on Friday, August 7. “Timely reimbursement remains critical to the effective functioning of the NHIS, enabling facilities to procure medicines and supplies, sustain essential services, and continue serving members without disruption.”

A breakdown of the GH¢256.5 million payout shows that private health service providers received the largest portion, taking GH¢113.86 million (44.39 percent). Public health facilities received GH¢97.34 million (37.95 percent), while mission-based healthcare facilities were allocated GH¢45.29 million (17.66 percent).

Healthcare administrators and facility managers have frequently pointed to delays in NHIS claims as a bottleneck to securing essential pharmaceuticals and maintaining infrastructure. The NHIA noted that this substantial payout will directly address supply chain pressures and enable service providers to honor obligations to pharmaceutical suppliers.

The Authority reaffirmed its strategy to streamline vetting processes, improve operational efficiency, and uphold transparency as it expands coverage under the national health framework.
