Political communication expert Mohammed Amin Lamptey Hussein has criticized the messaging approach of public officials in Ghana, arguing that political leaders are mismanaging their strategic priorities and disconnecting from social realities.

Hussein singled out Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, following the lawmaker’s public commentary on visa racketeering allegations. In his critique, Hussein questioned whether the MP’s approach aligns with effective political marketing principles.

“I personally wonder whether Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, a member of Parliament for Old Tafo and a ‘legal-brain’ fully understands political communication and political marketing vis a vis the historical antecedent of visa racketeering across all facets of our public lives in Ghana,” Hussein stated.

The analyst suggested that lawmakers risking public trust when relying on loud rhetorical exchanges rather than substantive engagement.

“The honourable man is not close to social reality but rather trying to reposition himself as the loudest politician… but lacks the required political literal voice as well as political rhetoric and influence,” Hussein said.

Addressing broader issues within national political dialogue, Hussein warned that politicians must focus on delivery style and strategic clarity rather than mere volume.

“Political Communication and Political Marketing are seriously under big problem in Ghana… talking is cheap,” Hussein cautioned. “However, in real-time political talk, it’s not what you say! But rather how you say it!”

The expert’s remarks highlight ongoing debates about narrative control and public communication standards among elected officials in Ghana.
