President John Dramani Mahama’s efforts to rebuild Ghana’s economy are beginning to attract renewed confidence from the international investment community, according to African business magnate Aliko Dangote.

The billionaire businessman believes the government’s handling of the economy has sent a positive signal to investors and helped create the trust needed to attract capital into the country.

Mr. Dangote expressed this view during the Accra Reset Full Circle convening in New York, an event organised on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81).

Held under the theme “Resetting Global Development: One Year On”, the gathering brought together high-profile personalities to examine developments in global economic and social affairs.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Dangote pointed to what he described as the progress made by President Mahama in a relatively short period, saying the economy was being placed on a more solid foundation.

He acknowledged that turning an economy around requires more than quick fixes, but maintained that the President’s actions had helped reassure the investment community.

For the renowned entrepreneur, confidence remains a critical ingredient in attracting investment, with his observation that “money follows trust.”

The statement places investor confidence at the centre of Ghana’s efforts to revive economic activity and strengthen its position as an investment destination.

Mr. Dangote’s remarks also provide international attention to the government’s Reset Agenda, which has been presented as a programme aimed at restoring economic stability and rebuilding confidence in Ghana’s economy.

His comments were made before an international audience at the UN General Assembly, giving added prominence to the discussion about Ghana’s economic recovery and efforts to attract investment.
