The fundraising efforts for the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign have received a major boost following a GH¢1 million donation from Icon Energies.

The contribution was announced as part of a broader national drive to mobilize resources for the senior national team’s preparations ahead of the global showpiece, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Speaking on the donation, the Chairman of the World Cup Fundraising Committee and Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, commended Icon Energies for its timely and patriotic gesture.

He noted that the support demonstrates a high level of confidence in the team and will play a critical role in ensuring the Black Stars are adequately prepared for the challenges of the tournament.

”This donation is a strong demonstration of patriotism,” Mr. Ampem stated. “It will significantly enhance our ongoing preparations and strengthen the collective drive toward a successful World Cup campaign.”

A growing wave of corporate support

The contribution from Icon Energies adds to a growing list of corporate entities and individuals who have answered the government’s call to support the national team. The fundraising initiative, which was officially launched in March 2026, aims to raise a total of $30 million to cover the team’s participation, international friendly matches, and logistical requirements.

Other major contributors to the fund include:

    Engineers & Planners: $5 million

    Goldfields Ghana: $2 million

    KGL: GH¢10 million

Serene Insurance: GH¢2 million (plus a GH¢20 million insurance package)

    Jewel Energy: $1 million

High-profile personalities from the entertainment sector, including Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, have also made significant financial and service-based pledges to the cause.

    National unity through football

The GFA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports have emphasized that this fundraising drive is designed to ease the financial burden on the state while fostering a sense of national ownership of the team’s journey.

With the coaching search still ongoing—amid recent denials from candidates like Joachim Löw and Kwesi Appiah—the steady flow of financial support provides a much-needed foundation of stability.

Mr. Ampem urged other corporate institutions to follow the example set by Icon Energies, stressing that the success of the Black Stars on the world stage is a source of pride and unity for all Ghanaians.
