‘Everyone Will Get a Fair Share of the Cake’ – Godwin Mahama Assures Agitated NDC Grassroots

The Presidency has moved to quell rising tensions within the grassroots of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), following reports of widespread discontent among party foot-soldiers who feel sidelined after the party’s electoral victory.

Speaking on Kessben Maakye with host Kojo Preko Dankwa, the Presidential Spokesperson and Corporate Affairs Officer, Godwin Ayaba Mahama, acknowledged the frustrations but urged party loyalists to exercise patience as the government works to settle into its mandate.

“I plead with the grassroots that everybody will get their fair share of the cake in due time,” Mr. Ayaba stated, addressing the growing narrative that those who toiled for the party’s success have been abandoned.

    A Familiar Political Pattern

Mr. Ayaba noted that complaints of neglect following a change in government are a recurring theme in Ghana’s political history. He explained that while the administration understands the urgency felt by supporters, appointments and opportunities must be managed with prudence and according to the state’s capacity.

He cautioned disgruntled members against public outbursts, suggesting that “throwing tantrums” could inadvertently harm their chances of being considered for future roles.

“You may not know when you are being considered for an appointment or an opportunity,” he warned, urging supporters to remain calm and professional.

    Bridging the Gap

Responding to specific allegations that some new government appointees have become unreachable refusing to pick up calls from the very people who campaigned for them Mr. Ayaba offered a defense for his colleagues while admitting the perception exists.

“People say government appointees don’t even pick their calls upon assumption of office, but I beg to differ. Not all of us are like that,” he insisted.

He further reassured the party faithful that the government has no intention of replacing its loyal base with outsiders. “We cannot abort our own people and adopt the unknown,” he added, emphasizing that the party remains committed to those who secured its victory.

The spokesperson’s comments come at a critical time as the NDC government faces increasing pressure to fulfill campaign promises of inclusivity and economic reward for its most dedicated supporters. For now, the message from the Jubilee House is clear: the rewards are coming, but the “cake” needs time to be shared.
