The Coalition of Muslim Organizations, Ghana (COMOG) has expressed profound sorrow following the passing of His Royal Majesty Naa Gbewaa Mahama Abukari II, the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom.

According to an official condolence message signed by COMOG President Hajj Abdel-Manan Abdel-Rahman on July 15, 2026, the late Overlord was laid to rest on Monday, July 13, 2026, in accordance with Islamic and royal customs.

The news of his demise has resonated deeply across the country, with many paying tribute to a leader who steered the Dagbon Kingdom through a pivotal era of reconciliation.

A Legacy of Peace and Unity

In a statement released by the National Executive Council of COMOG, the leadership described the late Overlord as a beacon of stability for the region.

“His Royal Majesty ascended the throne at a critical moment in the history of the Dagbon Kingdom,” the statement noted. “He distinguished himself as a humble, wise, inclusive, and peace-loving leader whose reign inspired hope, reconciliation, and unity among the people of Dagbon and beyond.”

The coalition further emphasized how the late king’s tenure successfully mended historical divisions within the kingdom:

“Having emerged after years of challenges within the Kingdom, his leadership became a symbol of healing, stability, and renewed confidence in traditional authority.”

    Tributes to a National Loss

COMOG lauded the Overlord’s continuous efforts to champion harmony, not just within his own territory, but across the entire nation of Ghana.

“COMOG recognizes the invaluable role played by His Royal Majesty in promoting peaceful coexistence, strengthening the Muslim community, and fostering national unity. His commitment to dialogue, justice, and the welfare of his people earned him the admiration and respect of Ghanaians from all walks of life,” the statement read.

Extending condolences on behalf of COMOG’s National Executive Council, stakeholder organizations, component member bodies, and affiliated development partners, Hajj Abdel-Manan Abdel-Rahman offered prayers for the late traditional ruler and his grieving people.

“We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT), in His infinite mercy, forgives the shortcomings of His Royal Majesty Naa Gbewaa Mahama Abukari II, grants him Jannatul Firdaus, and comforts the Royal Family and the entire Dagbon Kingdom with patience, strength, and unity during this difficult period,” the President stated.

The coalition concluded with a call to preserve the King’s memory, hoping that “his legacy of peace, unity, and inclusive leadership continue to inspire generations to come.”
