The Public Relations Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Abdul-Wahab Jawando, says the agency is now truly serving the youth of Ghana under the leadership of CEO Malik Basintale and the NDC government.
Speaking on Ahotor 93.2 FM, Mr. Jawando explained that YEA has introduced a transparent online recruitment system (www.yea.gov.gh) to eliminate human interference and ensure fairness for all applicants. He noted that the new leadership is focused on expanding opportunities and creating sustainable jobs for young people.
He criticised the previous NPP administration under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, saying it operated YEA with strong political influence. According to him, this is why “faceless NPP elements” are now attacking Malik Basintale, whom he described as “the youth president” because of his commitment and the rapid progress being made.
Mr. Jawando revealed that YEA has already deployed about 12,000 police assistants and 5,000 prison assistants, who graduated last week, to support national security agencies. He added that thousands of youth with little or no formal education are being enrolled in apprenticeship programmes in carpentry, masonry, electricals, welding, hairdressing and other trades. These trainees will receive monthly stipends and later be equipped with start-up kits and capital to establish their own businesses and train others.
He further highlighted the Community Medical First Response Module introduced by Basintale. Out of 6,000 recruits under this programme, the final batch of 2,000 will pass out next week after completing training with the Ghana Ambulance Service.
Mr. Jawando also noted that the Ghana National Fire Service has completed training for 5,000 YEA personnel, while a teaching assistant module is available for qualified applicants.
He stressed that all these achievements have been recorded within just 10 to 11 months of the John Dramani Mahama-led NDC administration, with beneficiary institutions fully involved in preparing recruits to meet professional standards.
According to the PRO, Abdul-Wahab Jawando, the minimum monthly allowance for YEA personnel starts from GH¢800.
