Operations team upgrades hospital facilities and provides technology resources to support paediatric healthcare delivery
Accra, Ghana, September 2026 : Employees of GCB Bank PLC’s Operations Department have renovated the Pharmacy Department and staff and patient washrooms at Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital, while providing desktop computers to support hospital operations and enhance the experience of patients, caregivers and healthcare workers.
The intervention forms part of GCB Bank’s Staff Community Impact Programme (SCIP), an employee-led corporate social responsibility initiative through which more than 4,500 employees, organised into 95 teams, are implementing 95 community projects across Ghana. The programme seeks to address practical community needs and positively impact up to one million Ghanaians through interventions in health, education, sanitation, environmental sustainability and other areas of community development.
The project was undertaken in response to a request from the hospital. As Ghana’s foremost paediatric hospital, Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive healthcare services to children from birth to 18 years and serves patients from Korle Bu, surrounding communities and other parts of the country.
GCB Bank’s Operations Department Group 4, comprising 50 employees, responded by refurbishing five staff and patient washrooms, renovating the hospital’s Pharmacy Department and donating two desktop computers. The intervention was designed to improve the functionality and appearance of key service areas while strengthening the hospital’s operational efficiency and capacity to deliver quality care.
The improvements are expected to enhance the overall patient experience by providing cleaner, more accessible facilities while supporting healthcare workers with additional technology resources to facilitate their work.
Speaking on the significance of SCIP, Sadat Laminu, Head of Corporate Affairs at GCB Bank, said the programme reflects the Bank’s commitment to creating meaningful social impact through employee-led action.
“Our responsibility to the communities we serve goes beyond providing banking services. Through SCIP, employees are taking an active role in addressing issues that matter to people in their communities, from education and healthcare to sanitation and the environment. It is a practical expression of our commitment to creating shared value.”
For the Operations team, supporting the hospital was an opportunity to contribute to an institution that plays a critical role in child healthcare. Dominic Cobbinah, Head of Operations and a member of the project team, said the intervention was driven by a desire to improve facilities that directly support patient care and hospital operations.
“Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital provides an essential service to thousands of children and families. When we engaged with the hospital, it became clear that improvements to the Pharmacy Department, washrooms and technology resources could make a meaningful difference to both patients and staff. We are pleased to support efforts that contribute to a more efficient, comfortable and conducive healthcare environment.”
Receiving the intervention on behalf of the hospital, Dr Maame Yaa Nyarko, Medical Superintendent of Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital, expressed appreciation to GCB Bank and the employee volunteers for the support. She noted that the renovated facilities and additional computers would strengthen service delivery and improve the hospital environment for both patients and staff.
Beyond addressing immediate infrastructure needs, the project is expected to deliver long-term benefits by improving the condition and usability of critical hospital facilities, enhancing staff productivity and supporting the efficient delivery of paediatric healthcare services.
The Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital Project is the 27th of 95 SCIP projects being implemented by GCB Bank employees across Ghana, underscoring the Bank’s commitment to advancing health and wellbeing through practical, community-driven interventions.
