The Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Dr. Julius Debrah, has issued a powerful and personal call to action for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, urging Ghanaians to take proactive steps in the fight against the disease.

In a new message released this week, Dr. Debrah emphasizes the critical role of early detection and communal support.

The awareness campaign, marked by a widely distributed image from his office, features Dr. Debrah with a pink ribbon, the global symbol for breast cancer awareness, and the message, “STAY Strong. Early detection saves lives. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.” It also includes the slogan, “HOPE HEALS LIVES.”

In a statement accompanying the campaign, Dr. Debrah spoke about the national impact of the disease. “Breast cancer is not just a health issue; it’s a family and national issue. When one person is diagnosed, the entire support system is affected. My message to all Ghanaians this month is to be diligent and proactive. ‘Early detection saves lives.’ This is not a cliché; it is a life-saving truth that we must all embrace.”

He continued by emphasizing the importance of self-care and mutual support within families and communities. “We must all take care of ourselves and look out for our loved ones. Encourage the women and men, as breast cancer affects them too in your life to get screened. The earlier it is found, the more treatable it is, and the better the outcomes.”

Highlighting the emotional and psychological toll, Dr. Debrah added, “Beyond the medical treatments, we must also focus on mental well-being and hope. That is why our campaign includes the theme, ‘HOPE HEALS LIVES.’ A positive and supportive environment is crucial for anyone battling this disease, and for their families.”

The Office of the President is encouraging all citizens to wear pink and support awareness initiatives throughout October. For more information on breast cancer screening and resources in Ghana, please contact your nearest health center or the Ministry of Health.
