Ghana Seeks Justice: Russian National Wanted Over Secret Sex Tape Scandal

By Abigal Botchway (Amasaman Police Station)

A storm of indignation is sweeping across Ghana after a Russian national, identified as Yaytseslav, was accused of secretly recording and publishing intimate encounters with Ghanaian women.

The brazen acts, which have sparked widespread outrage, are being described as a gross invasion of privacy and exploitation.

According to accounts circulating online, Yaytseslav targeted women around Accra, particularly near the Accra Mall area at Shiashie, striking up conversations and inviting them to his hotel room with a simple, yet sinister, line: “Come, I want to show you how I live.”

One of the women, a 29-year-old identified only as Angela, is said to have met him at Accra Mall. Unbeknown to her and others, Yaytseslav allegedly recorded the meetings using wearable camera glasses. Clips from the recordings have since surfaced on platforms including TikTok, Facebook, and Telegram, showing the women inside his hotel room, with their faces clearly visible.

The publication of the videos has sparked widespread anger, with many Ghanaians condemning Yaytseslav’s actions as a despicable exploitation of vulnerable women.

Critics argue that the women were recorded without their knowledge or consent, and that sharing the footage online has exposed them to humiliation and lasting reputational harm.

As the controversy grows, members of the public are demanding swift action from the authorities.

“We urge the Ghana Police to track down the suspect, investigate the allegations, and prevent further distribution of the material,” said one social media user.

The Ghana Police Service has yet to issue a detailed public statement on the matter, but pressure is mounting for decisive action as the videos continue to circulate online.

  • DVLA Shuts Down Offices in Cape Coast and Sunyani Amid Illegal ‘DV’ Plate Racket

DVLA Shuts Down Offices in Cape Coast and Sunyani Amid Illegal ‘DV’ Plate Racket

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has launched a major crackdown on the illegal sale of Defective Vehicle (DV) plates, resulting in the immediate closure of several insurance company offices in Cape Coast and Sunyani.

The decisive action, led by the Authority’s Chief Executive and his deputies, follows an intensive intelligence-led operation that uncovered a thriving black market for the specialized plates.

    The Findings

Investigations revealed a coordinated effort between certain garage owners and insurance operators to bypass national transport regulations. According to the DVLA, the illegal activities included:

Unauthorized Distribution: Garage owners were found selling DV plates directly to private individuals, a practice strictly prohibited by law.

Price Gouging: The plates were being sold at inflated prices, exploiting unsuspecting members of the public.

Collusion: Several insurance companies operating on DVLA premises were found to be acting as “physical hubs” for these black-market transactions, aiding and abetting the illegality.

    The Legal Standpoint

The DVLA has reiterated that DV plates are strictly reserved for licensed garage owners and vehicle dealers. Under existing transport regulations, these plates are only to be used for:

Testing newly imported or repaired vehicles.

    Demonstrations to potential buyers.

    Transit of unregistered vehicles.

”They are not for regular use by private individuals,” the Authority stated in an official release.

    A Warning to the Public

The Authority warned that engaging in the purchase of DV plates from unauthorized sources carries significant legal risks and compromises overall vehicle security.

”We will not tolerate activities that undermine the security of our licensing system or the safety of our roads,” the DVLA stated, adding that it is working closely with law enforcement to ensure all individuals involved are held accountable under the laws of Ghana.

The public is advised to visit official DVLA service counters or use approved digital platforms for all legitimate vehicle registration and licensing needs.

NPP Challenged to Reveal Cocoa Price Plans Amidst Government Reforms

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is being urged to disclose their cocoa pricing strategy, given the current challenges in the sector.

This comes as the government prepares to unveil reforms aimed at addressing delayed payments to farmers and financial pressures at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

Writing on social media, Godwin Ako Gunn questioned the NPP’s stance, asking, “NPP, be bold and tell us how much you would have sold a bag of cocoa given the prevailing condition.” The post criticized the NPP for politicizing the issue, citing their past promises and the current challenges in the sector.

The post also referenced the NDC’s 2024 price promise, which the NPP has questioned, prompting Ako Gunn to ask the party to focus on their own plans rather than criticizing the government. “NPP, all things being equal, how much would you have sold a bag of cocoa?” he asked.

The government is expected to announce reforms to address the sector’s challenges, including financial restructuring and improved transparency mechanisms. The move has been welcomed by cocoa farmers, who are hopeful for better days ahead.

In a related note, Ako Gunn wished readers a happy Valentine’s Day, encouraging them to support cocoa farmers by sharing chocolates. “Aban papa aba, Ghana b3y3 d3d333d3 s3 chocolate” (Good government has come, Ghana will be sweet like chocolate).

  • GRA cites lower costs for traders amid price hike concerns linked to ‘New VAT Regime’

GRA Boss, Anthony Sarpong, tour businesses to explain new VAT Regime

    By Adnan Adams Mohammed

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has moved to clear the air regarding the new Value Added Tax (VAT) regime under the Value Added Tax Act, 2025 (Act 1151), following concerns raised by the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Traders Association.

The Authority maintains that the transition from the 4% Flat Rate to a 20% Standard Rate will actually lower consumer prices and reduce the cost of doing business when applied correctly.

In a press statement released February 10, 2026, the GRA addressed claims that the new 20% rate would burden traders and consumers. According to the Authority, the previous Flat Rate system included a 21.9% non-deductible input VAT, which traders had to absorb into their costs.

    Under the new 2025 regime:

Full Deductibility: The 20% input VAT is now fully deductible, allowing traders to claim it back from the GRA.

Lower Final Prices: In a comparative illustration of a GH¢500 item, the GRA showed that the final price to the customer drops from GH¢760.66 under the old system to GH¢720.00 under the new regime—a savings of GH¢40.66.

Removal of “Tax-on-Tax”: The new system eliminates “cascading taxes” where levies were previously charged on top of other levies.

The GRA attributed current price increases to a “transitional pricing error,” where traders are applying the new 20% output VAT without removing the now-deductible input VAT from their cost calculations.

Market Fairness and the New Threshold

The GRA also defended the decision to increase the VAT registration threshold to GH¢750,000. While some feared this would distort market competition, the Authority provided data showing that both registered and non-registered traders can achieve the same final customer price (GH¢720 for a GH¢500 item).

The increased threshold is intended to provide administrative relief to smaller traders, freeing them from the burden of VAT filing without giving them an unfair pricing advantage.

    Key Benefits to Businesses

The Authority highlighted several structural improvements designed to streamline trade:

Abolition of the COVID-19 Levy: The 1% COVID-19 Health Recovery Levy has been permanently removed.

Unified Structure: The removal of the flat rate scheme creates a single, transparent system for all registered taxpayers.

Effective Rate Reduction: The overall effective tax rate has decreased from 21.9% to 20%, representing a 1.9% saving on every transaction.

    Support for Traders

To assist with the transition, the GRA has established a joint technical team with the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA). This team provides guidance on record-keeping, input tax claims, and correct pricing strategies.

The GRA has extended an invitation to the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Traders Association to engage in similar constructive support to ensure their members can take full advantage of the new policy.

Appolonia City launches infrastructure drive to redefine urban living

Appolonia City, Ghana’s premier master-planned urban development, has officially commenced a major infrastructure expansion following a high-profile groundbreaking ceremony for a new 25-kilometre road network.

The event, held on Friday, February 6, 2026, marks the transition from strategic planning to accelerated on-site execution for the 2,325-acre project. The ceremony was attended by top government officials, including Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, and leadership from Rendeavour and Core Construction Limited.

The 25km project is not merely about laying asphalt; it is an integrated mobility solution designed to withstand the demands of a modern city.

    The scope of work includes:

    ● High-quality asphalt roads designed for heavy durability.

    ● Dedicated pedestrian walkways and cycling paths to promote green mobility.

    ● Comprehensive stormwater drainage systems to ensure climate resilience.

    ● Modern utility crossings for power, water, and telecommunications.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Suhuyini hailed the development as a benchmark for Ghana. “Appolonia City represents the future of urban growth where roads, utilities, and services are delivered ahead of demand,” he noted.

    Investment and Economic Impact

Developed by Rendeavour, Appolonia City has already seen over US$250 million in critical infrastructure investment. This includes a massive 75MVA primary substation and over 50km of existing utility networks.

Perminas Marisi, Country Head for Rendeavour Ghana, emphasized that the new road network serves as the “arteries” of the city, unlocking access to residential neighborhoods, a 200-acre light industrial park, and commercial districts.

    Project Detail Specification

    Total Road Length 25 Kilometres

    Contractor Core Construction Limited (Ghanaian-owned)

    City Size 2,325 Acres

Key Features Landscaping, cycling paths, and utility ducting

    Local Partnership, Global Standards

The project is being executed by Core Construction Limited, a wholly Ghanaian-owned firm with over three decades of experience. Director of Operations Kevin Lartey reaffirmed the company’s commitment to technical excellence, noting that their own quarry facilities at Shai Hills would ensure the consistent quality of materials for the project.

As Accra continues to expand, Appolonia City stands as a resilient, well-governed alternative to unplanned urban sprawl, proving that private-sector leadership can deliver world-class infrastructure.

  • VFS Global warns against ‘Visa Scams’ … as 2026 travel demand hits record peak

VFS Global warns against ‘Visa Scams’ … as 2026 travel demand hits record peak

As international travel reaches a fever pitch in early 2026, VFS Global has issued an urgent fraud advisory to Ghanaian residents.

The warning comes in response to a surge in sophisticated “appointment scams” targeting travelers desperate for early booking slots.

With demand for leisure, business, and education visas soaring, fraudsters are increasingly posing as official representatives to exploit unsuspecting applicants.

According to VFS Global, scammers are utilizing highly deceptive tactics to siphon money from travelers. These include:

Fake Digital Profiles: Creating social media pages and search engine “pins” using official VFS Global logos and branding.

The “Early Slot” Promise: Charging illegal fees for “priority” or “early” appointments.

Unofficial Channels: Directing applicants to communicate via private messaging apps rather than official platforms.

Prashant Kansara, Regional Head for Central & West Africa at VFS Global, emphasized that visa appointments are free of charge and can only be secured via the official website.

“We continue to urge applicants to remain vigilant and avoid parties who falsely promise early appointment bookings in exchange for payment,” Kansara stated. “Many fraudsters create a fake presence using company credentials to deceive genuine travelers.”

New Security Protocols in Accra and Kumasi

In a direct bid to shut down unauthorized intermediaries, VFS Global has implemented several rigid security measures across its Ghanaian centers:

    Measure Description

Strict Entry Policy Only applicants with a valid appointment confirmation letter are permitted entry to centres in Accra and Kumasi.

OTP Verification A mandatory One-Time Password (OTP) is now required during booking to prevent third-party automated interference.

Form Validation Reference numbers are now digitally linked to specific appointment bookings to ensure data integrity.

Extended Hours to Meet Surging Demand

Recognizing that the scam epidemic is fueled by high demand and longer processing times, the company has expanded its operations. VFS Global has increased the number of available appointments and extended operating hours at its Ghanaian facilities to accommodate the 2026 travel rush.

Officials advise all applicants to ignore third-party solicitations and report any suspicious activity directly to VFS Global via their verified email channels. For legitimate bookings, travelers should visit www.vfsglobal.com.
