    Auction of new oil block to begin this month

    Ghana is set to open a competitive bidding for the allocation of new oil blocks in the country possibly this month.

    Deputy Minister for Power at the Energy Ministry, William Aidoo has said, the licensing bid evaluation and negotiations committee have been inaugurated at a workshop hence, looking forward to a formal announcement of the competitive bidding in October this year.

    He was speaking at the third annual Regional Energy Co-operation Summit, which was organized by EnergyNet had Ministerial delegations from Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone.

    “Sincere appreciation to the organizers for contributing to the government’s efforts in deepening the co-operation within the African region and the collective programmes and initiatives for energy development”, Mr Aidoo said.

    The Summit also celebrated the 10th Anniversary of GRIDCo and this included a site visit to the System Control Centre and Ghana Power System in Tema.

    Some dignitaries present at the summit were; John Peter Amewu, Minister for Energy of Ghana, Mr Jonathan Amoako-Baah, Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCo, Samuel Boakye-Appiah, Managing Director of Electricity Company of Ghana, and other private and public sector companies such as AKSA Energy, DLA Piper, Engie, Fieldstone, Manitoba, METKA, Wartsila, Greenville LNG, Power Africa, Interplast, VRA, Bui Power, Energy Commission.
