Sunyani Zone employees enhance hygiene, comfort and the care environment for patients and healthcare workers
Bechem, Ghana, September 2026 : Employees of GCB Bank PLC from the Sunyani Zone SCIP Cluster 3 have rehabilitated sections of the Male Ward at Bechem Government Hospital, improving the facility’s cleanliness, functionality and overall care environment for patients, healthcare workers and visitors.
The initiative forms part of 95 community projects being implemented nationwide under GCB Bank’s 2026 Staff Community Impact Programme (SCIP), an employee-led initiative designed to positively impact one million Ghanaians.
The project was undertaken by GCB employees from the Sunyani Zone as part of the Bank’s commitment to community development through staff-led volunteerism. Following assessments of local community needs, the team identified the hospital’s male ward as a priority area where targeted improvements could enhance patient comfort and support healthcare delivery.
As part of the rehabilitation, the team carried out a range of works, including the tiling of floors, replacement of mosquito nets and installation of new louvres. These improvements were aimed at creating a cleaner, safer and more comfortable environment for patients receiving care, while also supporting healthcare workers in the delivery of quality services.
The intervention is expected to benefit more than 3,000 people, including patients, medical staff and other users of the facility. In addition to improving comfort and hygiene, the enhancements are expected to facilitate easier maintenance and contribute to a more conducive environment for treatment and recovery.
Speaking on the broader significance of SCIP, Sadat Laminu, Head of Corporate Affairs at GCB Bank, said the programme reflects the Bank’s belief that social impact is a shared responsibility across its workforce.

For the Sunyani Zone team, supporting the hospital presented an opportunity to improve a healthcare facility that serves a large number of people within the municipality. Richard Gregory Denakpor, Sunyani Zonal Manager of GCB Bank, said the team deliberately focused on interventions that would deliver visible and lasting benefits to both patients and healthcare professionals.
The rehabilitated ward was formally received on behalf of the hospital by Dr. David K. Twumasi, Medical Superintendent, who expressed appreciation to GCB Bank and the employee volunteers for their contribution towards improving conditions at the facility.
To sustain the gains from the project, hospital management will continue regular cleaning and fumigation activities to maintain high standards of hygiene and ensure the proper upkeep of the rehabilitated areas.
The Bechem Government Hospital Male Ward Rehabilitation Project is the 22nd of 95 SCIP projects being implemented by GCB Bank employees across Ghana.
About the Staff Community Impact Programme
The Staff Community Impact Programme (SCIP) is GCB Bank’s nationwide employee-led community impact initiative, bringing together more than 4,500 employees across 95 groups to undertake 95 community projects across Ghana from August to September 2026.
The projects address needs across healthcare, education, water and sanitation, social protection, environmental sustainability, youth development, community safety and infrastructure, with the collective interventions aimed at positively impacting up to one million lives.
