    Eni Ghana signs LOI with AICS to Advance Sustainable Dev’t Initiatives in Ghana

    Eni Ghana has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) to explore strategic partnerships aimed at advancing sustainable development initiatives in Ghana.

    Through the LOI, Eni Ghana and AICS will work together to mobilize resources and strengthen partnerships that foster inclusive development in host communities. Particularly, key areas of cooperation include education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), agriculture and value chain development, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), community health, nutrition and food security, as well as broader economic diversification initiatives. Additional areas of collaboration may be identified over time.

     

    Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Managing Director of Eni Ghana, Maurizio Pinna stated: “This Letter of Intent reflects our unwavering commitment to the communities where we operate. Partnering with AICS allows us to align our efforts with the UN 2030 Agenda and deliver meaningful, lasting impact; from vocational training to clean water access. We look forward to what this collaboration will achieve for the people in our host communities and beyond.”

     

    The collaboration contributes to the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and reflects the shared commitment of both parties to maximizing impact through coordinated initiatives and jointly implemented projects.

     

    Eni has been present in Ghana since 2009 through offshore hydrocarbon exploration and production activities and currently reports equity production of approximately 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The company is the operator of the OCTP project with a 44.4% interest, alongside Vitol (35.6%) and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (20%), helping to meet approximately 70% of the country’s gas demand for power generation.

    Beyond its energy operations, the joint venture’s portfolio of projects also includes initiatives in the areas of training, economic diversification, access to water and sanitation and improved access to energy.

     

    AICS expanded its presence in Ghana in March 2021, when its Ouagadougou office assumed technical responsibility for the country, followed by the opening of an office in Accra in December 2021. Since 2024, Ghana has been recognized as a priority country for Italian Development Cooperation. Italy’s cooperation framework in the country is structured around three strategic pillars: education, vocational training and decent work; health; and agri-food ecosystems.     Eni Ghana and Partners launch program to support artisanal canoe fisherfolk

    Eni Ghana, together with its OCTP partners Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd (Vitol) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has launched today a livelihood enhancement program to strengthen artisanal canoe fishing, targeting over 1,000 verified canoe owners across 14 coastal districts and municipal assemblies in Ghana.

     

    These include Jomoro, Ellembelle, Nzema East, Ahanta West, Sekondi-Takoradi, Shama, Effutu, Gomoa East, Gomoa West, Mfantseman, Cape Coast, Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Komenda-Edina-Abrem and Ekumfi.

     

    The intervention seeks to enhance employment opportunities and increase local fish supply, in alignment with Eni’s commitment to sustainable development, as well as to the IFC Environmental and Social Performance Standards and Ghana’s Petroleum Regulations related to Local Content and Local Participation.

     

    Maurizio Pinna, Managing Director of Eni Ghana, said: “This program aims to strengthen canoe-based fishing by supplying modern nets and equipment, while enhancing safety at sea. Through this initiative, we are committed to reinforce awareness on marine biodiversity conservation and provide training in sustainable fishing practices, safety and business management.”

     

    The initiative addresses key challenges faced by fisherfolk, including aging nets, obsolete engines and unsafe towing equipment; factors that constrain productivity and income in communities where fishing remains a primary livelihood. Support will be tailored to the specific fishing practices and socio-economic conditions of each community, and equipment will also be provided, such as multifilament nets, weaving threads, buoys, lead weights and dragging ropes that meet Ghana Maritime Authority safety standards.

    Eni Ghana emerged as a dominant force at the 9th Ghana Energy Awards, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel, with its Managing Director, Maurizio Pinna, receiving the coveted CEO of the Year award.

     

    The recognition of Mr. Pinna stood out as one of the evening’s defining moments. His leadership has been instrumental in positioning Eni Ghana as a key player in the country’s upstream oil and gas sector.

    He was celebrated for steering the company with strategic vision, operational excellence, and a strong commitment to advancing Ghana’s energy agenda.

     

    Eni Ghana itself also secured the prestigious Upstream Company of the Year award, affirming its reputation for innovation in exploration and production, as well as its consistent contributions to national energy development.

     

    The dual honors CEO of the Year for Mr. Pinna and Upstream Company of the Year for Eni Ghana underscore the company’s growing influence and leadership within Ghana’s energy sector. They highlight both the strength of its corporate performance and the executive direction guiding its future growth.

     

    Organised by the Energy Media Group in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the awards ceremony brought together industry leaders under the theme “Repositioning the Energy Sector as a Pillar of National Development.” While the event celebrated achievements across petroleum, power generation, renewables, and energy efficiency, Eni Ghana’s success was a clear testament to its pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s sustainable energy future

  • Eni, partners sign agreement with Ghana to strengthen energy production and sustainability

     

     

     

    Eni Ghana and its Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) project partners, Vitol and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has signed a Memorandum of Intent with the Government of Ghana, represented by the Minister of Energy and Green Transition and the Minister of Finance, targeting the country’s oil and gas production increase and new sustainable initiatives.

     

    The signing was held at the presence of the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama.

    The agreement will evaluate a comprehensive and integrated investment plan, aimed at contributing to national goals for reliable, affordable, and low-impact access to energy.

     

    Among the key initiatives proposed is the possible increase in OCTP project production capacity, leveraging synergies between offshore and onshore upgrades, aimed at increasingly meeting the country’s growing domestic energy demand.

     

    The collaboration focuses also on the evaluation of Exploration activities and the new potential development of the Eban-Akoma field in Cape Three Points Block 4, which, following the declaration of commerciality announced in July 2025, is set to become a new and significant source of supply, leveraging on existing infrastructure for the benefit of value and time to market.

     

    Eni and OCTP partners have already invested over US$10 million in social programs directly benefiting more than 10,000 people in the areas of education, access to clean water, health and hygiene, and support for the local economic fabric. With the launch of a second phase, new initiatives will be introduced in these areas, along with services dedicated to the development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises will be expanded.

The company operates the OCTP project with a 44.4% stake, in partnership with Vitol (35.6%) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (20%). Since 2018, the OCTP project has produced over 107 million barrels of oil and 480 billion standard cubic feet (Bscf) of gas, helping to meet approximately 70% of the country’s gas demand for power generation. The joint venture’s project portfolio also includes initiatives in training, economic diversification, access to water and sanitation, and energy access.

     

     

     

  • Eni Ghana and Partners upgrade gas processing system to 270 MMScf/day

    Eni Ghana, together with its OCTP partners – Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd (Vitol) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) – has completed a major upgrade of its Non-Associated Gas (NAG) system, boosting processing capacity from 246 to 270 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).

     

    Operational since August 2018, the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) project has become a key contributor to Ghana’s domestic gas supply, providing around 70% of the total, mainly for electricity generation. Starting at 210 MMSCFD, OCTP has steadily increased output through phased optimizations and achieving its current milestone of 270 MMSCFD on July 13.

     

    This recent advancement not only increases gas supply but significantly reduces Ghana’s reliance on oil-fueled power generation to a cleaner energy source, delivering both economic and environmental benefits and reinforcing the country’s commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

     

    Currently, natural gas from OCTP powers around 34% of Ghana’s electricity, providing homes, industries and businesses with a stable and cleaner energy source. The project’s progress highlights the value of strong partnerships and sustained investment in building a resilient, diverse energy sector for sustainable national development.

  • Eni Ghana and Partners launch Sankofa East 1X Side Track 2 activity

    Eni Ghana and its OCTP partners, Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd (Vitol) and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has started drilling operations in the Sankofa East 1X Side Track 2.

     

    This mark a significant milestone in the further development of Ghana’s upstream energy sector.

     

    The drilling operations around 60 nautical miles off Ghana’s coast, in close proximity to the John Agyekum Kufour FPSO, as part of the broader Sankofa field’s development plan.

     

    The Deep Value Driller (DVD), a state-of-the-art drillship, started activities offshore Ghana following completion of operations in Côte d’Ivoire. Equipped with advanced automated technology, the rig ranks among the most advanced in the world in terms of operational performance and safety.

     

    After a stakeholder engagement with community ahead of drilling

    This activity reflects the partners’ ongoing commitment to unlocking additional value from the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) block, ensuring long-term production sustainability and contributing to Ghana’s energy security.

     

    Ahead of the campaign, Eni and its OCTP partners, Vitol and GNPC, have carried out comprehensive stakeholder engagement programs along Ghana’s coastline to ensure open communication and promote collaboration with communities. The activity, involving more than 800 fishermen and local leaders, has been conducted in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Petroleum Commission (PC), Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Ghana Navy, Fisheries Commission, and the Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Council (GNCFC).

  • Eni partners support host community with scholarships for vocational and technical training

    Eni Ghana on behalf of its OCTP partners, Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd (Vitol) and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), together with Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo (VIS), have handed over scholarship packages to over 1,000 students in 14 communities in the Ellembelle District, namely Atuabo, Bakanta, Ngalekye, Sanzule (including Anwolakrom fishing area), Krisan, Eikwe, Anokyi, Ngalekpole, Asemda, Baku, Anyinase, Esiama, Half Assini and Nkroful.

     

    The scholarship is part of Eni Ghana and its OCTP Partners’, Vitol and GNPC’s Local Development Project to promote inclusive economic development in the Ellembelle district. It covers tuition fees, registration fees, books and stationery, food, tools and equipment, accommodation, transportation and monthly allowances for the students who are enrolled in Vocational and Technical courses ranging from Fashion, Catering, Building Technology, Electricals and Welding.

     

    The scholarship package is designed in collaboration with the World Bank as part of the sustainability initiatives that the OCTP partners are implementing in the OCTP Project Area of Influence. Ellembelle District Assembly played a major role in the design and implementation of the program.

     

    VIS is a non-governmental organization that deals with development cooperation and international solidarity and an educational agency that promotes and organizes awareness-raising, education, training activities for development and global citizenship.

  • Eni Ghana and partners receive Presidential Honor for COVID 19 support

    Eni Ghana and its OCTP partners, Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd (Vitol) and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), have been recognized by the President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the support to the country during the COVID 19 pandemic.

     

    Accordingly, the President has conferred on the OCTP Partners, the Presidential Honor for distinguished service.

     

    During the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic, the OCTP Partners led by Eni Ghana donated medical equipment and devices including ventilators, medical tents, nose masks and other personal protective equipment, as well as laptops and TV screens, to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the Ghana Health Service, St. Martins De Porres Hospital in Eikwe and the Ellembelle District Health Directorate.

     

    In addition, Eni Ghana and its OCTP partners, Vitol and GNPC, donated 2 double-cabin pickups vehicles, 4 Station Wagons and pick up vehicles to the Western Regional Health Directorate and the Ghana Health Service respectively.

  • Eni Ghana and Partners provide entrepreneurship and management training for 900 MSMEs

    Eni Ghana and its OCTP Partners, Vitol and GNPC, in partnership with Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) provide entrepreneurship and small business management training in the Western Region

     

    Accra, 22 May 2023 – Eni Ghana on behalf of its OCTP partners, Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd (Vitol) and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), together with Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), have provided entrepreneurship and small business management training for over 900 beneficiaries. The initiative targeted individuals from ten (10) communities, namely Atuabo, Bakanta, Ngalekye, Sanzule (including Anwolakrom fishing area), Krisan, Eikwe, Anokyi, Ngalekpole, Asemda, and Baku in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

     

    The project was carried out under the Economic Diversification Building Business Project, which focused on women, youth and marginalized groups to enable the establishment of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), fostering entrepreneurial culture and supporting the local economy of the district. Training included subjects such as entrepreneurship, financial literacy, as well as technical workshops, to create an enabling environment for job creation.

     

    Over 900 beneficiaries received training in Entrepreneurship and Business Management, Health and Environmental Management, Compliance and Regulatory Support, Branding and Packaging, as well as support to formalize their businesses with the Office of the Registrar of Companies. Technical skills training was also offered in various trade areas, such as livestock, agro and fish processing, food and drink production, textiles, garment and accessories production, toiletries and cosmetics production, leather, rattan and woodworks, bamboo and catering services.

     

    The project, designed in collaboration with the World Bank, is part of the sustainability initiatives that Eni Ghana, together with its OCTP partners, Vitol and GNPC, are carrying out to impact the communities, by supporting start‐up businesses to enhance employment opportunities. It has been very well received by all stakeholders, including the leadership of the various communities and the Ellembelle District Assembly.
