In a move to strengthen ties with party leadership at the local level, the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, held a meeting with the Upper Denkyira East National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency executives during a recent homecoming visit.
The engagement, held in Dunkwa-on-Offin, went beyond a routine courtesy call, providing a platform to address constituency concerns, evaluate local mobilization strategies, and reinforce the vital connection between national officials and local party structures.
Addressing the executives, Mr. Sarpong emphasized that high public office should never detach a leader from the people who built the foundation of their service.
“Position and responsibility in national service must never blind us to where we started,” Sarpong stated during the meeting. “The strength of any political organization does not reside in national headquarters alone; it rests entirely on the commitment of the men and women who keep our structures alive here at the grassroots. I am here today because leadership begins with remembering your roots and honoring those who serve on the front lines every single day.”
The visit was met with enthusiasm from constituency officers, who praised the Commissioner-General’s willingness to consult directly with local organizers.
Speaking on behalf of the local executive body, Upper Denkyira East Constituency Chairman Kwame Mensah highlighted the significance of the gesture for morale within the district.
“It is rare for national figures carrying such heavy administrative burdens to sit down in an open dialogue with constituency leaders,” Mensah noted. “This visit demonstrates real humility and respect for the grassroots. It reassures our organizers that their hard work in mobilizing the community is both seen and valued.”
Throughout the session, discussions focused on inclusive decision-making, direct consultation on local party developments, and tactics to enhance grassroots organizing.
Constituency Women’s Organizer Abena Takyiwaa echoed the positive sentiment, noting the uplifting impact of the session on local volunteers.
“When leadership comes home to listen, it re-energizes the entire base,” Takyiwaa said. “This meeting has sent a powerful message of unity and appreciation across Upper Denkyira East. It shows that our efforts to sustain the party at the grassroots level genuinely matter.”
The engagement concluded with a commitment to maintain open channels of communication between constituency leadership and national figures, setting a standard for ongoing consultation across the region.
