Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Johnson Asiama, has paid tribute to the late journalist, Elom Desewu, who passed away recently.
Speaking at the Bank’s annual media engagement, Asiama emphasized the crucial role of the media in shaping economic expectations and confidence.
Asiama noted that 2025 was a challenging year, requiring difficult policy decisions and sustained discipline. He thanked the media for helping Ghanaians understand the rationale behind these decisions, saying, “Your role is particularly important. Monetary and financial policy decisions are often complex, and their effects are often indirect.”
The Governor stressed that accurate and balanced reporting is vital, as it influences market behavior and confidence.
“How the Bank of Ghana’s actions are reported has real consequences for households, businesses, and investors,” he said.
Asiama’s speech highlighted the Bank’s commitment to transparency and communication, emphasizing that “central banking is built on trust, and that trust is built on communication”.
