Technical glitch forces temporary shutdown of Ghana Passport portal

Ghana’s online passport application portal, passport.mfa.gov.gh, was temporarily taken offline due to unexpected technical difficulties, leaving applicants across the country unable to process or start new travel documents.

The disruption was confirmed in an official notice issued on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The Ministry wishes to inform its valued customers, particularly those who may be experiencing challenges accessing our website for passport applications, that passport.mfa.gov.gh is currently experiencing technical issues, and is therefore down, temporarily,” the statement disclosed.

To fix the platform, the Ministry confirmed it was collaborating directly with national security and technology experts to restore full online services without compromising system integrity.

“Our technical team is feverishly working with the National Signals Bureau to resolve the problem as quickly as possible,” the Ministry added.

Extending an apology to affected citizens and travel applicants, the Ministry appealed for patience and urged users to hold off on repeated submission attempts until normal functionality is confirmed.

“The Ministry apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused by the outage,” the statement concluded, assuring the public that “an update will be provided once the platform is restored.”
