    Press Release
    ————————-
    Monday, January 7th, 2019.

WEAR YOUR HIJAB NOW WITH CONFIDENCE!

Receive affectionate salaams from the National GMSA Secretariat.

The National Executive Officers of the Ghana Muslim Students’ Association (GMSA) has observed with grave concern the shameful intimidation of Muslim females in some health institutions by their superiors concerning the wearing of hijab.

Wearing of hijab is not only a fundamental right but it is also in strict conformity with the government of Ghana policy directive.

There have been no, there shall not be any empirical evidence to show that, wearing Hijab and dressing in accordance with Islam affects output and productivity of Muslim female workers.

We have examined the circumstances surrounding the reluctance of some heads of health institutions to comply with the directives of the Ghana Health Service that allows Muslim female health workers their right to dress in accordance to Islamic teachings in their schools and at work.

We are still receiving complains of the unlawful conduct of some superiors of forcing our sisters to remove their hijab at work and within schools.

We wish to convey to our sisters in the health sector to resist any such orders irrespective of who issues them without any fear.

The era of lamentation is over, we cannot lament forever. Our democracy is a matured one and such barbaric conducts no longer have a place unless we allow it ourselves.

Wear your hijab now at work and at school. It is your right!! You are not alone we are fully behind you.

As a proactive measure the leadership of GMSA has formed an alliance with MUYAD Social Services (an Islamic NGO) led by their Executive Director, Mr. Adnan Adams Mohammed to take legal action against any recalcitrant head of institution who might unlawfully issue a punishment to any of our sisters for the specific reason of wearing hijab.

Any person who get punished for wearing their hijab should kindly report to us via the following contacts for immediate action to be taken.
